Classes I take next year.

Well, in under 60 days, I graduate high school (hells yea!), luckily I'm going to Wor-Wic (Community College) (because tuition is F-R-E-E-FREE!!! books, not so much, but whatev.) More details after the cut.

I want to eventually teach Math at the high school level, so I'm majoring in Secondary Education (with the intent on transferring to a 4 year school for my last 2 (or 3 - more on that later) years

Summer classes:

CMP 101 Introduction to Information Systems (required by major) :: 900 - 1230 MW
SOC 101 Introduction to Sociology (need a social science) :: 600 - 930 MW

It's a safe bet that Monday and Wednesday mornings and nights aren't going to be a good time for me, but it's only 6 1/2 weeks.

Fall:

EDU 155 Foundations of Education (major requirement) :: 900 - 1030 TR (R=Thursday)
PSY 251 Human Growth and Development (major requirement) :: 230 - 400 TR
ENG 202 Studies in Literature - Drama (I need another English? Gaaah!) :: 1245 - 215 MW
SPH 201 Instructional Communication (major requirement) :: 1045 - 1215 MW
ECO 151 Principles of Macroeconomics (I needed another social science - and who I am to complain about how loosely economics is a social science) :: 1045 - 1215 TR

So it looks like I've got nights and weekends free (just like cell phones!) , although I do want to get a job (in the summer and/or fall) to get money for books/tuition/etc.

Springtime I've just got 4 classes (Educational Psychology, a science, and two electives) and then after that I graduate (thanks to some kickass AP scores and taking classes there in my senior year). I don't know if I'll go there as a sophmore with a shitload of credits or a junior (which would mean I'd graduate a year ahead of my class), but it's still pretty awesome.

So that's what I'm doing next year. Should be exciting.

Well, I was getting a little tired of the old header (though I still like Brittany) so I switched. Header features Kirsten Dunst as Marie Antoinette in, well, Marie Antoinette. I love the actual layout design so I think I'll only switch headers (and background/link colors by extension.

Would love your comments on the header.

Well, if you know me at all, you'll know I like books. And talking. So why not combine the two?

Books/Literature Currently Being Read:
- As You Like It , Shakespeare (for an English project on the classics)
- This Side of Paradise , F. Scott Fitzgerald (for my own personal enrichment, plus for whenever I go insane reading As You Like It
- Gooseberries , Anton Chekov (if you've read the last entry, you'll know why - if not, why haven't you???)

Books/Literature I Love:
- The Great Gatsby , F. Scott Fitzgerald (sympathetic protagonist? check. easy but not obvious symbolism? check. easter eggs? check. awesome ending? check.)
- The Crucible , Arthur Miller (short, sweet and to the point. historically accurate. really good movie, unlike most books)
- Rosencrantz and Gulidenstern are Dead , Tom Stoppard (so twisted, so absurd, so insane that it ends up being a crazy awesome ride. also helps that there's little in the way of Hamlet)
- Haroun and the Sea of Stories , Salman Rushdie (amazing imagery and story. plus the characters are wonderful)
- Harry Potter and the many adventures he has , J.K. Rowling (yes - I am a Potterite. and?)

Books/Literature I Had To Give A Chance, But Was Pleasently Surprised About:
- One Hundred Years of Solitude , Gabriel Garcia Marquez (the first 50-100 pages of it move rapidly and yet glacially - ironically mirroring the theme of the story - however, it picks up speed - literally and figuratively following the return of Jose Arcadio (one of them at least). plus, there are some of the most wonderful characters in the story - not because they're amazing or whatever, but because of the realistic portrayal of them.)
- A Death in the Family , James Agee (interesting, if a bit dull. lulls in the middle between Jay's death and Jay's funeral, but picks up near the end
- The Diary of Anne Frank , Anne Frank (Anne Frank was kind of annoying at first, but as time progressed and she was closer to capture, she got a grip and consequently became much more tolerable. I'll always be grossed out about the girl trying to shit out a baby or Peter van Horn shoving a cat's genitals in Anne's face, but all around, it was well worth the read)

Books/Literature That I HATE:
- The Grapes of Wrath , John Steinbeck (SparkNotes was my friend on this one. Otherwise I couldn't have gotten through it - and would've started English last year off with a big ol F-ski. Also - suckling? Entire chapters devoted to turtles? Fuck that)
- Huckleberry Finn , Mark Twain (It wasn't the racism. It wasn't the usage of the word nigger - which I actually liked since it was historically accurate. It was the fact that Sammy apparently got lazy after 8 years working on it and half-assed an ending which basically erases all the character development Huck goes through)
- Pride and Prejudice , Jane Austen (I read about 40 pages of it - keep in mind that this was required reading in...June. I don't give a shit about girls trying to get themselves (or by their mothers) a may-un who was wealthy/better off than them)
- Tess of the D'Urbervilles , Thomas Hardy (see Pride and Prejudice. add the forest rape)
- Ethan Frome , Edith Wharton (depressing much? glacial much?)

Books/Literature That I Would Like To Read At Some Point:
- Much Ado About Nothing , Shakespeare (from what I've heard, it's hilarious)
- A Confederacy of Dunces , John Kennedy Toole (comedy that I wanted to read for English, but couldn't find - plus 2 people had already committed to it)
- Waiting for Godot , Samuel Beckett (coming off my existential phase)

So there you are - an insight into my literary tastes. Purchase gifts accordingly ;)

Well, I've been a bad LJ-er. Sorry to all those communities I flaked out on (100icons, cordylims) - summer/fall has been insane.

...aaand it's about to get worse...

Well, I've got a speech to deliver on Wednesday. The speech that I have yet to start.

English...well, I'm to prepare a lesson for Anton Chekov's "Gooseberries" for the 20th. The story that I haven't even finished reading.

In SGA, a certain someone got me to volunteer 7th period all next week. The week I have to deliver my speech (which is btw from 2:30 to 4.) Plus there's all the work for the blood drive and the dumbass freshmen.

Youth Symphony is Youth Symphony - we actually got a (fast) recognizable (difficult) piece by Mozart. Problem is, Dr. S needed to make copies, so there was no way for me to practice for the concert which is in 2 weeks.

So in conclusion:
SGA - Blood Drive. Canned Food Drive.
YSO - reading songs with 2 rehersals left
English - many books to read
Speech - to do
